آتا ہے یاد مجھ کو گزرا ہوا زمانا

وہ باغ کی بہاریں، وہ سب کا چہچہانا

آزادیاں کہاں وہ اب اپنے گھونسلے کی

اپنی خوشی سے آنا، اپنی خوشی سے جانا

لگتی ہے چوٹ دل پر، آتا ہے یاد جس دم

شبنم کے آنسوؤں پر کلیوں کا مُسکرانا

وہ پیاری پیاری صورت، وہ کامنی سی مورت

آباد جس کے دم سے تھا میرا آشیانا

کیا بد نصیب ہوں مَیں گھر کو ترس رہا ہوں

ساتھی تو ہیں وطن میں، مَیں قید میں پڑا ہوں

جب سے چمن چھُٹا ہے، یہ حال ہو گیا ہے

دل غم کو کھا رہا ہے، غم دل کو کھا رہا ہے

I am constantly reminded,

Of the bygone times.

Those garden’s springs,

Those chorus of chimes.

Gone are the freedoms,

Of our own nests.

Where we could come,

And go at our own pleasure.

My heart aches,

The moment I think,

At the dew's tears,

the buds' smile.

That beautiful figure,

That delicate form.

Which was source of 

my dwellings' existence.

How unfortunate I am,

desperately longing for my home.

My companions are in the home‐land,

and I am rotten in the prison.

Since separation from the garden,

The condition of my heart is such.

My heart is waxing the grief,

My grief is waxing the heart.
